Meet the duo: Tim & Amanda
We've been married for 14 years and it's been quite the journey. Both of us brought a lot of baggage into our marriage.
At 3, I (Tim) experienced a tragedy that changed the course of my life. Growing up, I struggled with intense guilt, shame, paralyzing fear and insecurities. Through therapy, the help of friends and spiritual counselors, I was able to finally envision a future and eventually believed I was deserving of it too. Soon after, Amanda entered my life.
I (Amanda) grew up surrounded by people who had a history of alcoholism and depression. Communication was a struggle that led to me absorbing everything - and taking care of everyone - around me, but never myself. When I met Tim, I didn't know what to think at the time. And it took me a while to verbalize my true feelings for him.
God certainly had a sense of humor in bringing us together, because the very things that trigger us individually are actually each other's shortcomings. It keeps things spicy, though we‘ve both had our fair share of couples therapy.
